The Task

Mrs. Schwartz welcomes you into the classroom and there is that twinkle in her eye. Here we go again, you think.

"Today we are going to begin a new travel," she starts. "I have fixed the time machine and it is ready for you to use. You and a partner will be spending some time with a famous early European explorer. You will travel to the day the explorer you pick was born and follow him through his life. You don't have to worry about missing dinner. The time machine has a new feature that causes all time to stand still except for the time you travel to."

Mrs. Schwartz continues explaining that you will be spending the time with a partner so that you do not miss anything important. It will be crucial that you take notes on your explorer's life as you live it and that you don't miss anything important.

"I hope you have a great time on your travels," Mrs. Schwartz says.

And with that, she opens the door and asks who is going first.
