The Process

1. You and a partner need to decide which explorer you are going to visit. There is a list in the Moodle under the course "Explorer Webquest." Be sure to pick your explorer by Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008. After that, Mrs. Schwartz will pick the explorer for you.

2. Once you have picked your explorer -- blast off! Start your hunt for information. You will need to know what date to travel to (the birth of you explorer) and what town to travel to (the birthplace of your explorer). You will want to make sure you write down all these dates and places, as they are part of your final project.

3. Your final project is a diary of the life of your explorer. You might chose to make a handwritten journal, a typed and bound journal, or even a photostory journal with music, pictures, and narration. However, you must include the following items in your journal:

  • birth date and place of your explorer
  • death and place of death
  • family -- parents, siblings, wife, children
  • education and childhood information
  • exploration credits -- who sailed for, what discovered

4. You will need to use the links on my ikeeps, your social studies book, and the books on the cart from the library. Be sure to keep track of all sources because you will need to write a source sheet.

5. You will have one week to do your research and another week to work on your actual diary. If you finish your research before one week is up, you may begin working on your diary. Remember, you must finish your research before you begin your diary. You and your partner must also included a timeline with your diary.
